Regional Officer Candidate Statements:

President of the Nevada/California Region

Aida Thomas:

Dear Phi Theta Kappa NV/CA Region,

My name is Adia Thomas, and I am honored to submit my candidacy for Regional President. As Chapter President of Beta Kappa Delta and a long-time advocate for leadership development, I am committed to ensuring that every PTK member feels empowered, supported, and equipped to achieve their full potential.

In my time as VP of Leadership and now Chapter President, I have worked to equip our members with the tools and confidence to grow as scholars and leaders by ensuring they were aware of valuable resources like PTK Edge and the Leadership Development Studies. Our chapter went from minimal engagement to an estimated 30 students not only actively participating in leadership training but also completing entire PTK Edge courses. I also worked to make PTK more welcoming and accessible by spearheading outreach efforts to underrepresented students, including foster youth and disabled students, ensuring they knew that PTK is a place where they belong and can thrive.

Beyond PTK, my leadership extends to my role as Student Greening Program Coordinator, where I have helped others step into leadership with confidence. One of the most rewarding experiences was mentoring a shy and introverted team member who wanted to push herself into leadership. Through consistent encouragement, support, and trust, I watched her evolve into a confident leader who took initiative and inspired others. This is the power of leadership development and empowerment, and as Regional President, I want to extend that same support to the regional board and members across our region.

Attending the Spring 2024 Regional Conference was a defining moment for me. The leadership training and guest speaker’s message on turning deficits into assets solidified my belief in PTK’s transformative power. I left the conference fired up and immediately ran for Chapter President, determined to help more students experience what PTK has to offer. Under my leadership, we’ve grown from a 2-star to a 4-star chapter, with our 5th star in progress. I want to continue this momentum by fostering a strong, engaged, and welcoming regional community where every student—no matter their background—knows they belong.

My vision for the NV/CA Region is simple:

• Empower more students to recognize their strengths and step into leadership.

• Expand outreach to under-engaged chapters and underrepresented students, ensuring PTK continues to be a place of growth, opportunity, and belonging.

• Strengthen leadership development and engagement, ensuring that every new member feels welcomed, valued, and supported—just like I did at my first regional conference.

PTK is more than just a line on a resume—it’s an organization that invests in people, builds confidence, and cultivates leaders for life. I would be honored to serve as your next Regional President, and I look forward to the opportunity to work alongside all of you in making our region stronger, more connected, and more empowering than ever before.

Thank you for your support!

Best,
Adia Thomas

I am ecstatic about the opportunity to serve as your Regional President and work with incredible officers, members, advisors, and alumni to continue to build a strong, committed, and vibrant Nevada/California Region

Vice President of Technology

Yvonne SU:

My name is Yvonne Su and I am a Mathematics and Data Analytics major at Coastline College. I am currently the Public Relations Officer of the Beta Psi Alpha chapter of PTK. Our chapter is unique in that most of our members are distance learners. We rely on virtual meetings to keep our chapter going. My competency with virtual engagements, social media, and building websites will an asset to NV/CA Region.

As VP of Technology, I will keep chapters in our region updated with opportunities, and I will work with District VPs to strengthen all of our chapters by promoting PTK values — service, leadership, and scholarship — using every channel available to us.

Thank you,

Yvonne

Vice President for the Northwest District

Drew Choueiri:

My name is Drew Choueiri, and it’s a pleasure to meet you! I’m a Mathematics major, and I am a member of Cañada college’s Beta Zeta Nu chapter for Phi Theta Kappa. I am running for the position of Vice President for the Northwest District of Nevada/California. My efforts in the Beta Zeta Nu chapter have included conducting surveys for our Honors in Action research, developing a model for and completing the writeup for the College Project, and leading a book drive on campus where our chapter collected over 230 children’s books that were distributed among libraries and schools in the bay area. My hope is to further implement my skills if I am to be elected as the Vice President of the Northwest District as well as work on projects that help positively impact the Nevada California region.

To tell you a little bit about myself, I’m a first generation college student from the mountains of Virginia. My pursuit of math as a major was born out of an intense desire to face my fears. I didn’t grow up with educational support in math. For the longest time, I avoided math in order to make myself more comfortable. As I got older, I became interested in Statistics. The ability to take complicated information and translate it into a story for others was fascinating to me.

It was at that point I realized that if I wanted to pursue a career in Statistics that I would need to face my fears. Through hard work and the support of my professors I can proudly say that I am proficient enough in math to tutor others. In fact, I tutor the entire calculus series. Outside of academics, I enjoy a variety of hobbies! I enjoy trying new baking recipes in the kitchen, indoor rock climbing (despite my fear of heights), embroidering, and playing a changeling ranger in DnD.
